Companions / Homemakers
These caregivers provide non-clinical, non-personal care support.
They assist with:
- Companionship
- Social engagement
- Light cleaning
- Meal prep
- Errands
Best suited for:
- Independent seniors
- Clients with mild support needs
- Reducing social isolation
Personal Support Workers (PSWs) / Health Care Aides (HCAs)
They provide non-medical, hands-on daily support.
They assist with:
- Bathing, grooming, dressing
- Toileting and continence care
- Mobility and transfers
- Meal preparation
- Light housekeeping
- Companionship
Best suited for:
- ADL support
- Seniors aging at home
- Dementia support
- Respite services
This is the most commonly provided caregiver type in home care.
Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) / Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
They may assist with:
- Medication administration
- Vital signs monitoring
- Basic wound care
- Chronic disease support
- Some palliative care support
Best suited for:
- Stable but ongoing medical needs
- Clients requiring routine nursing care
Registered Nurses (RNs)
They may provide:
- Health assessments and care planning
- Medication administration (including injections)
- Wound care and dressing changes
- Post-surgical monitoring
- Palliative and symptom management
- Coordination with physicians

- Post-operative care
